PREFACEThe contents of this book are adapted from the relatedchapters and paragraphs in several textbooks on principles ofaccounting recently published in the U.S.A.They constitutea skeleton of the basic concepts and fundamental proccduresof accounting.The purpose of studying this book is to helpaccountants and students in the Institutes of Economics readEnglish accounting literatures and deal with accounting workin English.Since 1979,it has been used as a textbook in theDepartment of Accounting and Business Administration,theSchool of Economics,Xiamen University.It has also beenused in the Special Classes for Foreign Financial Affairs spon-sored by the Ministry of Petroleum and Xiamen Spccial Econo-mic Zone respectively.For every lesson in this book,in addition to the notes andreference version,a reading terial and some exercises (ques-tions and problems)are provided so as to extend the field ofaccounting knowledge related to the text and enhance the read-ing and practising ability of the readers.I like to express my deep gratitude to Professors GongQing-hao and Xie Shu-sen,Shanghai Institute of Finance andEconomics,for their constructive comments and suggestionsgiven to me in the course of writing this book.I am also particu-larly grateful to Associate Professor Jiang Xi-he,ShanghaiForeign Languages Institute,who has read and revised thiook in detail.For lack of teaching experience in Englishlanguage courses on the part of the writer,there y still bea number of shortcomings and errors.Thanks will be due tothose readers giving their criticis and corrections.Chang HsunJanuary 23,1983
